A Geographical Indication is a legal guarantee that a product comes from a specific place and is made in a specific way — the way it has always been made. Champagne, Darjeeling tea, Parmigiano-Reggiano. Kashmir has five such tags that together define the crafts of the valley: Kani Shawl (2008), Kashmir Pashmina (2008), Kashmir Paper Machie (2008), Kashmir Walnut Wood Carving (2012), and Kashmir Saffron (2020).
On Kashmir GI Mart, every product carrying a GI tag shows its registration number on the product page, the receipt, and the shipping invoice. If the number isn’t there, the tag doesn’t apply — and we won’t let a machine-blended shawl carry the Pashmina name.
Behind the tag, there’s always a pair of hands. Each artisan signs a card that ships with your order. That signature is our second guarantee, more personal than any registry.
